Who can apply
We welcome applications from every part of the country. your organisation can apply for a grant from the Foundation if you are a:
- Non-governmental organisation (NGO)
- Community based organisation (CBO)
- Trade Union
- Media organisation1
And if:
- Your organisation is registered in Mainland Tanzania and/or Zanzibar
- You have been establised for charitable (not-for-private-profit) purposes
- You have a constitution or memorandum of association, or a legally recognised set of rules that explains your organisation's aims, and how your operate.
- Your organisation has a bank account operated by more than 1 signatory
- You have beeen established for atleast 1 year.
Branches of larger organisations
An organisation that is a branch of a large organisation (national or international) may apply only if it emonstrates that it functions independently from its headquarters.
Consortia or groups of Organisations
The Foundation is interested in encouraging organisation to work together to address common issues. When two or more independent organisations apply for a grant to work together, we treat them as a consortium or a group of organisations.
International Organisations
If you are an international organisation applying for support from the Foundation, you should remember that the primary focus of the Foundation is on Tanzania civil society, and you will be required to show strong linkage and knowledge of Tanzania civil society organisations.
Contributions to multi-donor funded programs (partial funding)
The Foundation is open to providing partial funding to a large project that is also funded by other donors. You will need to clearly show what parts of the project the Foundation is being requested to fund.
1The Foundation can make grants available to private media organizations only if the projects they are applying for do not contribute to their profits, overheads, or reducing debts, and are designed to serve the public good.
